How Much Does BBQ Catering Cost in Belfast? (2026 Price Guide)
Honest 2026 prices for BBQ catering in Belfast — what £19, £23 or £40+ per person actually gets you, plus the hidden costs to watch for.
If you're planning a wedding, a 50th, a corporate summer party or a community fundraiser in Belfast, one of the first questions you'll ask any caterer is the obvious one: how much is this actually going to cost?
The honest answer is it depends — but not as much as caterers like to pretend. After years cooking outdoor events across Belfast and Northern Ireland, we can tell you exactly what every price band gets you, where the hidden costs hide, and what's fair for a 2026 booking.
The short answer
Most BBQ catering in Belfast in 2026 falls into three clear bands:
- £15–£22 per person — Buffet-style BBQ, popular cuts (burgers, sausages, chicken), classic sides, drop-off or simple on-site cooking. Great for casual parties and 50+ guests.
- £23–£35 per person — Live-fire, chef-cooked, more interesting cuts (smoked ribs, hot dogs with proper toppings, hand-pressed burgers), better sides, on-site service. The sweet spot for weddings and corporate days.
- £40–£90+ per person — Premium menus with Irish tomahawk steaks, langoustines, sharing boards, multiple courses and bar service. Often the spend at high-end marquee weddings or executive events.
At The Arches BBQ Trailer we sit deliberately in the middle band, with our BBQ Package 1 starting at £19pp and Package 2 at £23pp — both with our chefs cooking on the trailer at your venue.
What's actually included at each price point?
£19pp — Belfast's solid mid-range starting point
Expect a single main (burger or marinated chicken burger), one extra protein like sticky chicken wings, two sides (corn on the cob and hasselback potatoes is our combo), fresh salads and homemade sauces. Cooked fresh on-site, not reheated. Plates, napkins and serving included.
What you don't usually get at this tier: multiple choice of mains per guest, late-night food, dessert, bar service, table settings.
£23pp — Most popular wedding/corporate option
A larger plate with three mains to choose from (jumbo hot dog, gourmet burger, chicken burger), a second smoked protein course (ribs or wings), baked potato, corn on the cob, creamy slaw, mixed salad and sauce. Still buffet-style but more variety and a higher-end finish.
This is the spend most Belfast couples land on when they want a relaxed BBQ wedding without going to £80pp territory.
£35–£50pp — Premium / wedding feast
Multiple courses — bridal breakfast or arrival food, sharing platters, then a main built around premium cuts like slow-roasted pork belly, herb-crusted salmon or beef brisket. Sides become more chef-y (chimichurri, miso slaws, smoked aubergine). Some dessert. Often dual catering — BBQ trailer plus an evening street food trailer.
£60–£90+pp — Foodie / luxury
Irish tomahawk steaks, whole sides of salmon, Strangford Lough langoustines, multi-course service, full waitstaff, dressed tables. This is where firms like Foodie Folk price their wedding banquets (£80–£90pp). You're paying for both the produce and a much larger service team.
The hidden costs to watch for
This is where Belfast bookers get caught out. Always check whether a quote includes the following:
- Travel/mileage. Some caterers quote a low headline rate then add £1–£2 per mile each way. We include the first 15 miles from our Holywood Road base and charge transparently after that.
- Staff hours after the meal. A wedding caterer billing 5 staff at £15/hr for an extra 3 hours after dinner is another £225. Ask if clearing-down is included.
- Equipment hire. Crockery, glassware, tables, gazebos — often a separate line item at £3–£8 per head.
- Minimum spend vs minimum headcount. A £500 minimum spend at £19pp means you're effectively paying for 26 people even if you have 20.
- Dietary surcharges. Vegetarian and gluten-free should be standard. If a caterer adds £4pp for a veggie option, push back.
- VAT. Some quotes are quoted ex-VAT — always ask whether VAT at 20% is included.
- Deposit & cancellation policy. Standard is £250–£500 deposit, non-refundable inside 4–8 weeks of the event. Read the small print.
What drives the price up (and what doesn't have to)
Drives it up:
- Premium cuts (brisket, ribeye, langoustines)
- Multiple service points (BBQ + cocktail + dessert)
- Long event windows (8+ hours of staff)
- Remote venues with no power/water
- Dual trailers (main meal + late-night street food)
Doesn't have to drive it up:
- Going outdoors. Outdoor doesn't mean more expensive — a self-contained BBQ trailer is often cheaper than indoor catering because you don't need a kitchen hire.
- Higher guest counts. Most caterers, including us, drop the per-head rate once you hit 80–100 guests.
- Booking last-minute. Off-peak weekday slots in spring or autumn are often available at the standard rate.
What 100 guests at £23pp looks like
To make it concrete: 100 wedding guests on our Package 2 = £2,300 for the food, cooked on-site, served buffet-style, with chefs running the trailer. Add roughly £150–£250 for any beyond-15-mile travel and you're at £2,450–£2,550 all-in for the main meal.
For comparison, a sit-down three-course wedding at a Belfast hotel is typically £55–£85pp = £5,500–£8,500 for the same group. A hog roast across NI sits closer to £20–£28pp depending on accompaniments.
How to get an accurate Belfast BBQ catering quote
Three things every caterer needs from you to quote accurately:
- Headcount range (e.g. "around 80, definitely between 70 and 90")
- Date and venue postcode — affects travel and staff availability
- Service window — what time you want food served, and roughly how long the event runs
With those three, any reputable Belfast BBQ caterer should be able to send you a written quote within 24 hours. We do — by email, WhatsApp or phone.
